The pair, who announced their split in December, appeared to be more than friends at Friday evening's SHG's Eden Hollywood opening, where they were "constantly touching and kissing each other," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
After arriving with pal Brittany Snow around midnight, the actors quickly took to the dance floor. "Vanessa was bopping around with her arms up while Zac had his hands all over her," the source says. "Vanessa had a smile on from ear to ear and the two were inseparable after that."
Eventually heading towards a table, the couple proceeded to get cozy – and stay that way for the rest of the evening.
"Zac sat in between her legs and she wrapped her arms around him," the onlooker notes. "They were making out on and off for the last hour or so until closing. They acted like there was no one else in the room."

Gaga, Timberlake Songs Allegedly Stolen By German Hackers
Two young German computer hackers allegedly stole pop songs from Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Ke$ha and Kelly Clarkson, selling them online and forcing the advanced release of several singles, officials said Friday.
An 18-year-old high school student from Duisburg, and his alleged accomplice, a 23-year-old unemployed man from Wesel, are under investigation for using a Trojan Horse to hack into the artists' computers for about 12 months before being discovered, Duisburg chief prosecutor Rolf Haferkamp told The Associated Press.
During that time, they earned more than (EURO)10,000 ($13,240) in illegal sales of tracks acquired from the stars' computers. Haferkamp would not comment on specific songs that were stolen.
Both men live with their parents in the western German cities, which are about 20 miles (30 kilometers) apart.
Reached at his home the 18-year-old, an amateur disc jockey known as "DJ Stolen" whose name has been reported in the German media as Deniz A., told the AP he had been out of touch with his alleged accomplice, Christian M.
"I haven't heard from him for a while," he said.
He refused to comment on the case or give any further details, saying his attorney had told him not to speak with the media. His attorney was out of the office and could not immediately be reached.
According to local media reports the two had attached the Trojan to an MP3 file that was then sent to the official addresses of the stars, their managers and their record companies.
Deniz A. also allegedly downloaded a sexually compromising photo of one artist and used it to blackmail her. Haferkamp would not comment on which artist it was.
Before he was reached by the AP, Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper quoted Deniz A. as saying he didn't mean to do any harm.
"I'm a fan and I just wanted to have cool music," he was quoted by the newspaper as saying. "I'm no blackmailer."
Haferkamp said the police were informed of the hacking after a fan of Kelly Clarkson alerted her management that unreleased songs of the singer were being sold online.
A Duisburg police spokesman, speaking on departmental condition of anonymity, said that the two had been under investigation for "several months" and that authorities had a 1,000-page file on them.
Haferkamp said the investigation should be concluded by January and can lead to criminal charges. If convicted, they could be sentenced to up to five years in prison or face stiff fines for damages.
Clarkson and Ke$ha are represented by RCA, and Timberlake is represented by Jive, both subsidiaries of Sony. Sony Germany had no immediate comment.
Lady Gaga is represented by Universal Music. Her manager in Germany did not immediately return requests for comment.

While on Hot 97's "The Angie Martinez Show" Wednesday, the singer admitted to receiving offers to pose for Playboy, but she's turned them all down. "I got a few offers to do Playboy actually. University offers Lady Gaga sociology course
The University of South Carolina has developed a sociology course dedicated to the life, work and rise to fame of pop star Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga and the Sociology of the Fame is to be taught by Professor Mathieu Deflem, a fan of the singer.
Course documents said students would learn to "engage in sound and substantiated scholarly thinking" on issues related to her fame.
The course, which has its own blog, is due to start in spring 2011.
The Belgian born sociologist, whose research interests also include counter-terrorism, international policing, crime control and internet technology, says he has seen Lady Gaga in concert 30 times.
'Sociological dimensions'
"We're going to look at Lady Gaga as a social event," Prof Deflem told the USC student newspaper, the Daily Gamecock.
"So it's not the person, and it's not the music. It's more this thing out there in society that has 10 million followers on Facebook and six million on Twitter. I mean, that's a social phenomenon."
The course description says it aims to "unravel some of the sociologically relevant dimensions of the fame of Lady Gaga with respect to her music, videos, fashion, and other artistic endeavours".
It will look at business and marketing strategies, the role of old and new media, fans and live concerts, gay culture, religious and political themes, sex and sexuality, and the cities of New York and Hollywood, it says.
Prof Deflem said he initially planned to call the course the Sociology of Fame or the Sociology of Celebrity, and to use Lady Gaga as an example.
"Then I thought, 'Oh, what the hell? Let's make the whole freaking course about Lady Gaga and her rise to fame.'
Also a fan of Frank Zappa, Prince, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Status Quo and Ritchie Blackmore, Prof Deflem says his interest in Lady Gaga began when he first saw her perform on television on 9 January 2009.
"I hope that [prospective students] are at least somewhat fans of Gaga," he told the student newspaper.
"They don't have to be hardcore fans. The better fan will not necessarily be the better student. But you have to have some interest in the topic. So if you really don't like her, you probably shouldn't take the course."
Speaking to the BBC, he said the media reaction to the launch of the course has been "simply staggering", and the academic endeavour has become caught up in the very phenomenon it is exploring.
"The story has gone viral... My work on terrorism got a lot of attention as well, but that is dwarfed by the Gaga course!", he said.

Pink is "seriously sore" after crashing into a barricade on stage. The 'Stupid Girls' singer apologised to fans at a concert in Nuremberg, Germany, on Wednesday (14.07.10) when she was forced to cut her performance short after the accident, which happened because she wasn't properly secured into a harness. Despite her injuries, Pink was able to get back on stage and thank the audience for their support.
She said "So I'm not sure but possibly I broke something. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do the last song but thank you for coming. Thank you for always being supportive."
She left the stage to applause and cheers.
Later in the ambulance on her way to hospital Pink apologised again.
She tweeted: "To all my nurnberg fans- I am so so so sorry to end the show that way. I am embarrassed and very sorry. I'm in ambulance now but I will b fine.
"didn't get clipped in2 harness correctly,drug me off stage, fell in2 barricade. Getting xrays.I hope it at least looked cool!!! (sic)."
Despite the dash to hospital, the 30-year-old star reassured fans there was nothing seriously wrong.
